In WWII the Soviet Union was in better economic shape, and was able to fight back better against the Nazis, while the US was still the 'Arsenal of Democracy' during the war, after, in the beginings of the cold war the 'Red Menance' was taken much more seriouslty by everyone in the US and Canada. After the supposed assignation of Joseph McCarthy, the two contries combined as the Amcan Alliance. The Alliance was quickly placed under "Emergency Rule" until the threat had passed. One result of this is that Nevada and the pacific coast area, The Yukon Territories, British Columbia, Washington state, and Oregon state became the "District of California."

  The Cold War continued on until !996 when the Old Soviet Union colapses, begining the formation of the Rusian Federation, Russian America becomes a steadfast part of the Federation. Even though Russia is far more peaceful, The Amcan Allince never lifts the state of emergency.

  By 2013AD (the BCE/CE calander convention was never adopted in the Amcan, It was seen to be something of the 'Godless Commies') development of manned warcraft ends by all major powers and UAVs/ UG(round)Vs / US(ubmersible)Vs / USG(Surface Going)Vs begin.   In 2020 The EU offers for sale stealth detection systems, able to defeat stealth used by 5th gen aircraft. Stealth is broken by low frequencey radars with enough computing power to deal with such systems excessive 'clutter.' This makes such aircraft like the F-22, F-35, B-2 and the PAK-FA totally detectable by modern militaries, if they were not already.   By 2022AD most all Earths millataries are remote controled. Much of the robots are still controlled by humans, but the idea of human control is being phased out. Human troops were limited to 'Military Police Forces' or 'Occupation Police Forces.' The terms were something of missmomers, besides their police training, most forces were highly trained in Urban Warefare tactics. Robots would lay seige to an area and soften it up, then the human troops would go in to do the 'house to house' fighting to 'pacify' the area.   In 2035AD the last major military power (China) retires the last of its remote controlled defense systems. All are automated, the individual drones are given tactical orders but the drones act on their own. No humans other then the political leaders are involved.

  Feb. 20th, 2039AD Amcan Alliance Minister of Unity Bruce D'Clerc attempts a coup/world takeover, not only launching his own forces but by also hacking n to the defense systems of other major world powers. This started a worldwide comtest of hacking and counter hacking. This was called, by D'clerc the "Unifacation War" future Historians would call the Unifacation War the fist stage of WW III.

  On June 16th, 2040, Due to all the hacking and counter hacking done in the early stages of the 'Unifacation War' the controling systems for all the automated defensuve systems are in so bad of shape that they all, en mass, seemed to have come together and decide that Humans were the enemy, and turned on their makers.

  Unlike many a movie plot, this "Robot Rebelion"as future historians would call this 2nd stage of WW III, the robots were not unbeatable. The robots had never controled their manufacture, nor the nuclear stockpiles of the world. They also went for the largest concentration of humans, not the most militarilly signifigent.

  Brigades and regiments of human Military/Occupation Police forces would lure land/hover robots into urban areas where their programing was lacking and they were destroyed like so many mechinzed forces have been before in cities.

  UAV type robots ran out of weapons and fuel, be it battery power or hydrocarbon based, eventuatally crashing, they could not reload/resupply, their orders had them killing the humans that were supposed to do that. Water vehicles were much the same, though to finish of submerine forces it would take years by de-mothballed attack subs, even after the wars official end in Jan 2043.

  Cost to the Human race is high, over 4.7 billion people die, the Eaths population is less then 3 billion.   During the post war years of 2043-2044 China leaves the world stage becomming isolationist Amcan shatters, The Russian Federation crumbles, the Europian union de-unions, and the India/Pakistan conflict goes 'hot' for a while until a plague srikes the region.

  While much of the Russian Federation is destroyed many secret bases and industrial complexes in Russian America remain. The largest of these, Great Pyotrgrad is located where Skagway, Alaska is on our Earth.

  On August 27, 2050AD The 'New Union of Soviet Republics' (NUSR) forms. Starting out in just Russian America, then over he next 5 years it peacefully adds what we know as the majority of the Yukon Terietoires, British Columbia Canada, Washington State, Northern Oregon and Idaho states.

  These regions were never happy being under the control of California, and with California acting like it was going to form its own country, the Northwest was happy to have another option.

  The 5 Republics that form the NUSR are The Rebublic of America, Yukon, Columbia North (BC), Colimbia South (Washington) and the Orida Territorial Republic (Oregon/Idaho).

  The Flag/Emblem of the NUSR is a Red field with a Hammer and Sickle, Star and Maple Leaf in white. Red and white being among the common shared colors of the US, Canada, and the Russian Federation. The Rebublic of America is represented by the Hammer and Sickle, the Maple Leaf represents the rebpublic of Yukon and Columbia North, and the Star, Columbia South and the OrIda teritories.

  In reaction to the NUSR growth, especially the genorous immigration policeies give to Amcan and Old Russian Federation citizens the easern elements of the Amcan Alliance begin to reform in 2052AD. By 2057 the first North American Accord is signed between Amcan and the NUSR is signed, stopping NUSR expansion and "population drain" by curtailing the NUSR's Immigration policies, though by this time the NUSR's population has grown from 8 million to around 17 million.

  The Russian Orthodox Church splits with the church in Russian America becoming the American Patriarchate in 2053.

  In 2065AD the NUSR begins to seriously re-equip millatailly starting back at 2009-2013 designs. Most countires do the same, none of the Earth's goverments want to risk robot rebelion again. The upgrading and replacement comes fast.

  In 2071AD the Amcan Alliance, The NUSR, and the Eurasian Russian Federation sign the so-called Technology Growth Accord. China does not, though its intentions for automated combat sysems is no different, just China still has no interest in the outside world.

  One princible of this accord is the idea of 'No new systems' and that only so many upgrades would be allowed per 5 year period. As time went on the newer systems totally over matched the old but it was thought that this policy made the process a bit slower and more rational, hopefully forstalling an arms race.

  In 2075AD the Amcan Alliance (Which at this point bears no resemblance to the USA or Canada other then geographics) starts to work on Phase Warheads, a way of 'disintagrating' a target without radioactive fallout.

  China begins to emerge back on the world stage in 2140AD, taking over Pakistain and India. These countries had never recovered from WWIII and its after efects.

  In 2143 Major conflict between the NUSR and the Amcan Alliance starts up. Amcan starts to make demands that its 'historic teritories' be returned to it. This does not happen as none of the 4 republics want to be put back under the control of Califorina, nor does the Republic of America want to part ways with the majority of its land/people.

  After years of failed talks and continued 'Injustices' the Amcan Aliance launches a Phase missle strike against the NUSR complex at Great Pyotrgrad in 2146AD. What the phase bombs really do is open a dimensional rift to some, random, alternate Earth. Great Pyotrgrad is transported to Rifts Earth, PA 86.

  It is known that other areas of the NUSR were being attacked at the same time as Great Pyotrgrad, but no other people of the NUSR other then the Great Pyotrgrad complex has ever been found on Rifts Earth.
